I see the music in colors, I hear the picture in colors

From an early age, I felt a connection between musical and visual perception (synesthesia), which I discovered in my early childhood. This led me, as I grew up, to develop my ability into a multifaceted artistic creation.
In the quiet whisper of dawn, when the first light kisses the world, it feels as though my canvas — an empty expanse — beckons to me. It is a sanctuary for the untold stories within me. My desire to paint was not driven solely by a need to capture the world, but to understand it, to translate the melodies and shades of life into a visual symphony.
For me, painting is more than a craft. It is a dialogue between my soul and the universe. Every stroke of my brush is a note in a longer melody, a harmonious interweaving of thoughts, emotions, and dreams. The colors I choose are not just pigments; they are visible emotions, each shade resonating with the vibrations of my inner world.
Nature, in all its grandeur and subtlety, is my greatest muse. The tranquility of a still lake, the powerful elegance of a storm, the sharp, dramatic flash of lightning illuminating the dark sky, the gentle dance of leaves in the wind — all these elements inspire me. They speak a language that transcends words, a language I wish to capture in my art. Through painting, I aim to honor the timeless beauty of nature and the profound lessons it offers.
My perception of the environment is one of interconnectedness. Perhaps this is because I was born on September 11, 1974, in Struga by Lake Ohrid and placed in an orphanage in Bitola. From there, I was adopted and brought to Slovenia when I was three years old. Since then, I have lived and worked in Sežana. I am immensely grateful to my adoptive parents for opening the door to the world for me.
I see the world as a vast tapestry, where all elements are interwoven, creating a complex and beautiful whole. This understanding extends to my perception of people and the life around me. Each person is a unique color, a distinct melody contributing to the greater symphony of existence.
In my art, I explore the depths of human emotions and experiences. I strive to understand not only the surface but the complex layers of each person’s story. For me, painting is an act of empathy, a way to bridge the gaps between us, to capture the essence of what it means to be human.
In my thesis titled Synesthesia – The Connection Between Musical and Visual Perception, I come closest to understanding the stories of each person and life through myself. In my two works, there is a strong connection between music and colors, reflecting synesthetic experiences. I compare visual art in a linear composition, reminiscent of playing the piano. It suggests movement and progression, similar to the flow of musical notes. The linear arrangement can symbolize the passage of time, longing, sorrow, or the structure of music.
In contrast, my second work is expressed in an impressionist style, where I sought to capture a moment in time. The painting is dominated by colors and shapes that I perceive while listening to a chosen piece of music. Whether I view the painting with the music or without, it contains a story within itself. It’s as if a horse is moving through a nearly bare, partially snow-covered landscape by some body of water. The appearance of the landscape creates a sense of cold, desolation, and boundless nature. The painting is mysterious, and the effect of intertwining colors, light, and diverse shapes is achieved.
My artistic journey is one of constant discovery. It is about seeking beauty in the ordinary, finding meaning in the everyday, and joy in the simple act of creation. I hope that through my paintings, I can inspire others to see the world with fresh eyes, to appreciate the subtle and profound beauty that surrounds us all. For with an understanding of life and the environment in which we live, we come closer to understanding ourselves.
